Considered one of Indiana's leading plaintiffs trial lawyer advocates, Boyd has been elected to and listed in The Best Lawyers in America since 1987 and in Indiana Super Lawyers since its inception. He also enjoys the highest rating possible in the Martindale-Hubbell law directory.

Boyd has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers (1976), a Fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers (1979) and a member of the College of Fellows of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association (1981). He is a past president of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association and was awarded its Lifetime Achievement Award in 2000. He is also a past president of the Indianapolis Bar Association and has served on the Indiana Supreme Court Committee on Rules and Practice on its Character and Fitness Committee.

Boyd is admitted to practice before all federal courts in Indiana, the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

On the civic side of life, Boyd is a charter member and Distinguished Fellow of the Indianapolis Bar Foundation. Boyd was an Indianapolis Jaycee, served as its Chapter President and received its Distinguished Service Award. He has served on a Citizen's School Committee and was involved in the United Way of Greater Indianapolis. He also served as Chairman of the Indiana Evans Scholar Selection Committee and was awarded the title Sagamore of the Wabash by Governor Evan Bayh in 1992.
