A serious car crash on I-65 began with a loose mattress.
According to news reports, SUV was traveling along I-65 with the box spring mattress tied to its roof. Unfortunately, the soft, cushiony pad would come loose around mile marker 101, unleashing a series of events that would leave three cars badly damaged and three men hospitalized.
The mattress fell into the middle of the center lane, and the SUV driver pulled over along the right shoulder of the road, got out of his vehicle, and went to retrieve it.
A second car, driven by a friend of the SUV driver, pulled over in the center lane and its driver also go out to retrieve the mattress. While the two men were in the highway, a third northbound car struck the back of the friend’s vehicle.
The collision threw the parked car into the two men. A third vehicle then collided with the second vehicle.
According to ISP, the two men and a driver of one of the vehicles were sent to the hospital. Their condition is unknown.
